How Can I Be Saved?

IF YOU SHOULD DIE TODAY, WHERE WOULD YOU SPEND ETERNITY?

No one likes to think about death -but death comes to everyone. "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Heb. 9:27)

Since death is so certain, you must prepare to meet God. According to scripture you will spend eternity in one of two places, heaven or hell.
"And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal."
(Mat. 25:46)

EVERY PERSON BORN INTO THIS WORLD INHERITS A SINFUL NATURE

"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom. 5:12)

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jer. 17:9)

THIS SINFUL NATURE PRODUCES ALL SORTS OF EVIL DEEDS

Many people compare their lives with others. "I'm not as bad as others I know." It's not a question of how bad of a sinner we are. The fact is, we are sinners.

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Rom. 3:23)

"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lascivious- ness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." (Mark 7:21-23)

Many people never get past this point. Can you admit that you are a sinner, deserving of Hell? It is not the amount of sin that condemns, sin itself condemns. We are sinners by birth, sinners by choice, and sinners by habit of life.

YOU CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF!

If you are still reading, you obviously realize your sinful condition. But what can you do about it? Many think that God will accept their reformation of life or their joining of a church. But the fact is, without God's help, you are utterly condemned and have no hope.

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." (Rom. 3:10-12)

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done," (Titus 3:5)

"Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law...for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." (Gal. 2:16)

THE GOOD NEWS OF SALVATION

If this were the end of the story, life would be a miserable existence. The word "gospel" means "good news." And the Bible certainly has "good news" for sinners!

"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly." (Rom. 5:6)

"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" (1 Peter 3:18)

INTELLECTUAL BELIEF ALONE WILL NOT SAVE YOU

We now come to a word of caution. It is possible for you to read these words, mentally agree with them, and still not come to a saving knowledge of Christ. Salvation is not merely a mental exercise, it is the action of the whole heart. In the Bible, the "heart" is the seat of total personality, the intellect, the emotions, and the will. Repentance is the key to salvation. Repentance is the change of the human heart -an inner change which involves all three parts of the personality.

"...except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3)

"...God...commandeth all men every where to repent:" (Acts 17:30)

BIBLE SALVATION IS AVAILABLE TO YOU NOW!

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:" (John 1:12)

"...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Cor. 6:2)

"Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:" (Isaiah 55:6)

WILL YOU ACCEPT GOD'S GIFT OF SALVATION?

Bible salvation is accepting the gift of God. Jesus Christ died on the cross as payment for your sins. That is the only payment God the Father will accept. Your good works and good deeds will not be accepted.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9)

One of the easiest ways to accept God's gift is to pray to Him. You are not saved by a prayer -rather you are saved by accepting Christ. But prayer is an acceptable way of receiving Him.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Rom 10:13)

Here is a model prayer to help. Reciting these words alone will not save you; you are encouraged to talk to God in your own words.

"Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I realize that my sin is what nailed Jesus to the cross. I am sorry that I have sinned against you and with all my heart I turn from my sin and receive Christ as my Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me."
